Identification of Vietnamese native rose species by using internal transcribed spacers (ITS) sequencing. Plant cell biotechnology and molecular biology, 21 (11-12), 1-10.
There are approximately 50 Vietnamese native rose species growing in some different regions from North to South of this country. In this study, 23 Vietnamese native rose species collected from 5 different provinces were identified based on the sequences of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of nuclear ribosomal DNA. By comparing the sequencing data of 23 samples and 22 world references of rose species, we have successfully identified 5/23 based on their molecule forms including SD3, LC2, SP1, SP2 and SP3. Other 18 species, of which SD3, SP2, SL2 species were identified as Rosa chinensis, and SP3, SP1 were accurately identified as Rosa souleana and Rosa odocata var. odocat species, respectively. The results have revealed that Vietnamese native rose species are diversified in the genus Rosa species and showing species – adaptation location– dependent. The study has also disclosed that the location of varieties used in the phylogenetic tree helps confirm the correct scientific names of those species samples. The results in this study have provided useful information for rose breeding program in this country.
